Session 10: “Reflect and Celebrate: Our Design Journey”

Learning Objectives
In this session, the students will:
- Reflect on Their Learning Journey: Share experiences, favorite projects, and challenges overcome.
- Develop Presentation and Storytelling Skills: Present their village and share stories they’ve created.
- Celebrate Their Achievements: Recognize and appreciate their hard work and creativity.
- Build Confidence in Public Speaking: Express ideas clearly and confidently in front of an audience.
- Foster a Sense of Community: Share their work with parents, teachers, and peers.
Teaching Aids
Required Equipment:
- Assembled Village: The collaborative village project from previous sessions.
- Students’ Keychains: Decorated and ready for display.
- Presentation Materials:
- Microphone (optional, if required).
- Stage area or designated presentation space (optional).
- Certificates or Awards (Optional):
- To recognize each student’s participation and effort.
- Audio-Visual Equipment (Optional):
- Camera or video recorder to document the presentations.
- Whiteboard and Markers:
- For any last-minute notes or reminders.
Structure and Lesson Plan (Total Time: 50 minutes)
1. Introduction and Welcome (5 minutes)
- Greet Students and Guests:
- “Good morning, everyone! Today is a special day as we reflect on our amazing journey and celebrate all that we’ve created.”
- Outline the Session:
- “We’ll be sharing our village with some wonderful stories you’ve prepared. This is a chance to show off your hard work and creativity!”
- Set Expectations:
- “Remember to speak clearly, listen respectfully to others, and most importantly, have fun!”
- Introduce Guests (If Applicable):
- “We’d like to welcome our special guests today. Thank you for joining us to celebrate our students’ achievements.”
2. Presentations and Storytelling (30 minutes)
Note: Allocate approximately 3-4 minutes per group, depending on the number of groups.
- Group Presentations:
- Preparation:
- “Each group will come up to present their building in the village and share a small story they’ve created about it.”
- Order of Presentations:
- Decide on the order beforehand.
- Preparation:
- During Each Presentation:
- Introduction:
- Group members introduce themselves.
- Showcase the Building:
- Point out their building in the village.
- Describe the design and any special features.
- Share the Story:
- Narrate a short story involving their building.
- Encourage creativity and expressiveness.
- Audience Engagement:
- Invite questions from the audience.
- Encourage applause and positive feedback after each presentation.
- Teacher’s Role:
- Facilitate smooth transitions between groups.
- Offer encouragement and support.
- Keep track of time to ensure all groups have a chance to present.
- Possible Story Ideas:
- The daily life in their building (e.g., a day at the school they designed).
- An adventure that happens in their shop or house.
- How their building contributes to the village community.
3. Reflection Activity (10 minutes)
- Group Discussion:
- “Now that we’ve heard all these wonderful stories, let’s take a moment to reflect on our journey.”
- Guided Questions:
- Favorite Projects:
- “What was your favorite part of the project?”
- Allow a few students to share their thoughts.
- Challenges Overcome:
- “Did you face any challenges while designing or building? How did you overcome them?”
- Encourage students to share and celebrate problem-solving efforts.
- Learning Moments:
- “What is something new you learned during this project?”
- Highlight skills like teamwork, using TinkerCad, or understanding 3D printing.
- Future Creations:
- “What would you like to create in the future using these skills?”
- Inspire them to think about new projects or ideas.
- Emphasize Growth and Learning:
- “You’ve all grown so much and learned valuable skills that you can use in many ways!”
4. Celebration and Closing Remarks (5 minutes)
- Distribute Certificates or Awards (Optional):
- “To recognize your hard work, we have certificates for each of you!”
- Hand out certificates individually, perhaps with a handshake or applause.
- Thank the Guests (If Applicable):
- “Thank you to our guests for joining us today and supporting our class.”
- Closing Encouragement:
- “I’m incredibly proud of each and every one of you. You’ve shown creativity, teamwork, and perseverance.”

“This marks the end of the DesignLab for grade 2. I hope will serve as comprehensive guide on how to introduce students to the concept of 3D design and eventually 3D printing. I hope that this inculcates a sense of creativity and accomplishment among the students. The lab is designed to broaden the horizons of the students and open doors of new possibilities to them.”
