Session Overview

In this session, Grade 7 students will explore advanced features in their slicer software (e.g., Cura) to further optimize their 3D prints. They will experiment with specialized slicer modes such as vase mode, fuzzy skin, adaptive layers, and ironing, which enhance print efficiency and surface quality. This session will build upon previous slicing knowledge and introduce techniques for achieving more refined, aesthetically pleasing, and structurally efficient prints.

A. Vase Mode (10 minutes)
  • Concept:
    • “Vase Mode allows you to print objects with a continuous outer wall, making them faster and lighter. This is great for hollow structures like vases, pencil holders, and cups.”
  • Demonstration:
    • Enable Vase Mode on a sample model in Cura.
    • Show how the print preview changes to a single spiralized extrusion.
  • Hands-On Activity:
    • Students select a basic model and enable Vase Mode in Cura.
    • Use the Preview Mode to observe the slicing difference.

B. Fuzzy Skin (10 minutes)
