Learning Objectives

In this session, students will:

  • Present Their Projects: Share group-designed, 3D-printed household items within the scale model house.
  • Demonstrate Functionality: Explain how their designs accurately represent real household items and fit seamlessly into the scale model house.
  • Reflect on the Design Process: Discuss what they learned about designing, measuring, scaling, and 3D printing.
  • Identify Challenges and Solutions: Share obstacles they faced and how they overcame them.
  • Celebrate Achievements: Acknowledge their hard work and creativity throughout the course.

Teaching Aids

Required Equipment:

  • Printed Models: All 3D-printed items from Sessions 8 and 9.
  • Presentation Tools: Projector, screen, or display boards for showcasing designs.
  • Decoration Supplies: Markers, stickers, or other decorative items for personalizing presentations.
  • Safety Equipment: Safety goggles and gloves for any last-minute touch-ups.
  • Certificates: For recognizing participation and achievements (optional).

Structure and Lesson Plan (Total Time: 50 minutes)

1. Introduction and Overview (5 minutes)

Encouragement:

“Welcome to our final session! Today, we get to show off all the amazing 3D-printed furniture you’ve created for our scale model house. Let’s celebrate your hard work and creativity!”

Recap of Previous Sessions:

  • Question: “Can anyone remember what we did in our scale model house project?”
  • Prompt: “We designed, printed, and decorated scaled-down household items to fit into our model house.”

Outline of the Day:

  • Explain: “Today, you’ll present your designs, demonstrate how they work, and share what you’ve learned. We’ll also celebrate your achievements together!”

2. Setting Up the Showcase (5 minutes)

Action Steps:

Arrange the Models:

  • Action: Set up the houseplan (printed on the chart-paper) on the floor and ask each student to place their piece of furniture in the decided room.
  • Suggestion: Allow groups to organize their space creatively, ensuring each project is visible.

3. Group Presentations (20 minutes)

Action Steps:

  1. Group Presentations:

    • Action: Each group takes turns presenting their scale model house and the items they designed.
    • Structure:
      • Introduction: “This is our living room furniture designed at 1:25 scale.”
      • Functionality: “We created a sofa that fits perfectly in our model house and is easy to print.”
      • Problem-Solving: “We had trouble with the chair legs being too thin, so we made them thicker to make them sturdier.”
      • Problem-Solving: “The shape of our sofa was too complicated to print, so we simplified the design by using basic rectangles and circles, which made it easier to print without breaking.”
      • Problem-Solving: “The handle on our door wasn’t printing correctly, so we redesigned it to be simpler and printed it again successfully.”
  2. Demonstrate Functionality:

    • Action: Groups show how their items fit into the model house and explain their purpose.
    • Example: “Here is our lamp. It lights up our model living room, just like a real lamp would in your home.”

Encouragement:

“Great job! Remember to speak clearly and share what you’re most proud of in your project.”

4. Individual Presentations and Acknowledgement (15 minutes)

Action Steps:

  1. Student Spotlights:

    • Action: Select a few individual students to share their personal contributions or favorite parts of the project.
    • Example: “This is Aleeza, who designed the bookshelf. She used different shapes to make it look realistic.”
  2. Highlighting Personal Learning:

    • Question: “What was your favorite part of designing and printing your item?”
    • Prompt: “Share something new you learned during this project.”

Encouragement:

“Everyone did an amazing job! It’s wonderful to see all your unique ideas come to life.”

5. Reflection and Discussion (5 minutes)

Activity: Group Reflection

  1. Guided Questions:

    • Question: “What was the most challenging part of this project?”
    • Question: “How did you work together to solve problems?”
    • Question: “What did you enjoy the most about designing and printing your items?”
  2. Sharing Insights:

    • Action: Encourage groups to discuss their answers and share with the class.
    • Example: “We had to adjust our sofa design to make it printable, and we learned how important scaling is.”

Encouragement:

“Reflecting on what we’ve done helps us understand and appreciate our hard work even more.”

Closing Remarks

Great job, everyone! I’m so proud of all of you for the amazing work you’ve done. You’ve learned so much about design, teamwork, and creativity. Keep exploring and creating amazing things—your fantastic skills will take you far!

Message to Teachers and Students

Dear Teachers and Students,
To our students: Don’t worry about perfection. Trust me, 3D printing and design is all about the journey, not just the end result. What matters most is your hard work, creativity, and the fun you’ve had along the way. Every challenge you faced and overcame has made your project even better. Let’s use our final session to share our accomplishments and reflect on everything we’ve learned together.

Keep up the fantastic work, and let’s make today a memorable celebration of your achievements!

Looking Forward

As you conclude the Grade 3 course, these sessions have equipped students with foundational skills in 3D design, measurement, collaboration, and problem-solving. The culmination in Session 10 not only highlights their hard work but also reinforces the importance of perseverance and creativity in learning.
